Having a senior in high school this year has caused a bit of reflection on my parenting.
This past Saturday night was the first of one of many "senior nights" that will occur throughout this year. It was senior night for the marching band and I was fortunate enough to be able to get off early and walk Greg out onto the track.
As I've asked myself, have I been a good parent? did I spend enough time with him? is he prepared to go out into the world without me? have I been there when he needed me? have I been to hard, not hard enough? what would I do differently if I had it to do over? what I've come to realize is that parenting is a little like ICU nursing. Sometimes the patients survive, not because of you, but in spite of you. And I believe that Greg is a person I am proud of, maybe a bit because of me, but also in spite of me.
Greg, I love you and I'm proud of the person you are.
Katie is cheering for the flag football team this year. It is perfect fall weather for football games right now, but I'm not looking forward to the cold snowy days. I had forgotten how little the football players look at this age. It seems like forever ago that Greg and Michael were the players out there.
Last night we got almost all the sheep sheared. There was one ewe who escaped the lock up and therefore will have to be caught at a later date. At about 30min/sheep I'm not about to win any Australian shearing contests, but at least its done for the year!

Well, after the last two days of work it dawned on me that my new job is much like working at Super Club. My clinic is located directly in front of the check out lanes and is a great place for people watching. I could write a whole blog post on "what not to wear to the grocery store", but more on that later. When I looked up and saw the older lady working the express line wearing spandex fingerless bagging gloves, I could barely contain myself.
That's when the Employee of the Month parellel occured to me. To top it off, all the clinics are in a contest to see who can do the most free screenings each month. The winning clinic's NP's get a $100 VISA gift card, and then are entered in the national drawing to win: 1) a flat screen entertainment center TV, 2) an all expense paid 5 day trip for 2 to Cancun, or 3) a one carat solitaire diamond ring!
I WILL own that bling! GO Super Club!
We spent the last week at our favorite vacation spot; Dale Hollow Lake. It was a great time with lots of boating, tubing, swimming. We hadn't gotten down in a few years, with me in school. It was a nice way to spend the last week before I return to work. Here are a few pics:
So maybe I need to live like this some more,
because at my doctor's appointment yesterday, my blood pressure was actually normal for the first time in a couple years and I haven't even been taking my medicine lately.
